Lot Description
** Springfield Model 1903 Rifle
World War I

.30-06. 24" barrel. SN: 395135 (Mfg. ca1909). Blued finish, smooth walnut straight-gripped S-stock with single reinforcement bolt and grasping grooves. Bolt action internal magazine fed military rifle. Receiver marked in four lines: U.S./SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY/MODEL 1903 followed by the serial number. Barrel marked S.A./{Flaming Bomb}/11-09. No cartouche is present on the counterpane and there is no "Circle-P" behind the triggerguard. Features include a ladder rear sight graduated to 27, a hooded front sight blade, sling and stacking swivels, and a checkered buttplate with a nickel cleaning kit in the butt trap. A leather Pattern 1907 sling is included.

This rifle has what is considered a "Low Number" receiver (under 800,000 for Springfield and 285,507 for Rock Island) which only received one heat treatment when manufactured. All such rifles are considered "collector's items" only and not "shooters" by the CMP. The CMP does not recommend firing any such rifle.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.
