** Pre-WWI Rock Island Arsenal U.S. Model 1903 Springfield
Manufactured 1911
.30-06. 24" barrel length. SN: 204749. Blued metal finish. Walnut "S" stock has a plain straight grip and forearm with hand grooves, single barrel band, early style humpback handguard, and single crossbolt. Bolt action rifle with an adjustable ladder notch rear sight and blade front sight. Item features an internal box magazine, straight bolt, checkered trapdoor buttplate with cleaning kit, triple sling swivels, bayonet lug forend, and gas release hole to right side. Markings include U.S./ROCK ISLAND/ARSENAL/MODEL 1903/204749 to receiver. Barrel is marked RIA/{flaming bomb}/10-11 to top and C 86/P to bottom. Floor plate is double stamped with {flaming bomb}/NRA marks. Magazine cutoff has early serif font style. Stock is marked with a boxed CN/1912 Conrad Nelson inspector cartouche to left of wrist, S/circle P proof marks to bottom of wrist, and an S to forend.
This rifle has what is considered a "Low Number" receiver (under 800,000 for Springfield and 285,507 for Rock Island) which only received one heat treatment when manufactured. All such rifles are considered "collector's items" only and not "shooters" by the CMP. The CMP does not recommend firing any such rifle.
