** U.S. Springfield Model 1903 Manufactured in 1917
World War I
.30-06. 24" barrel length. SN: 705077. Blued metal finish with straight wrist walnut full length stock. Bolt-action repeating rifle fed by an internal 5-shot magazine. The receiver is marked U.S./SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY/MODEL 1903, and the rifle sports the 1905 pattern ladder rear and front blade sights with the 1905 pattern bayonet lug formed into the upper barrel band. The stock features twin reinforcing screws with the sloped upper edge typical of World War I era 1903s. The barrel date mark reads SA/{Ordnance Bomb}/9-17, indicating it was manufactured by Springfield Armory in September of 1917. Stock shows the Circle P marking on the wrist, and the left wrist shows a J.F.C. inspector cartouche of James F. Coyle, who inspected Springfield rifles during World War I as part of a nearly thirty year career as an inspector. Rifle mounts a serrated trigger, a post 1910 pattern upper handguard with metal clips, split lower barrel band, and comes with a 1905 pattern leather sling.
