Lot Description
U.S. Springfield Model 1879

.45-70 Government. 32.5" barrel length. SN: 251911. Blued finish to barrels and case hardened finish to breech has mostly turned to a plum patina. Wood stock has plain straight grip and forearm with two barrel bands. Breechloading rifle with adjustable folding notch ladder rear sight and blade front sight. Item features a smooth trigger, three click tumbler, low arched breech cover, two piece triggerguard, and stacking swivel. Markings include US/MODEL/1873 to breech cover, U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1873 to center lock, US to heel of buttplate, and V/P/{eagle head}/P to barrel. Stock markings include circle P mark behind triggerguard and octagonal boxed SWP/1884 Samuel W. Porter inspector cartouche to left side of wrist.

Condition Report

Fair to Good. Bore is lightly frosted. Finish has a brown-plum appearance overall, with scattered pitting. Stock shows some light scratches and mars scattered overall. Action is functional.
