Lot Description
** British Enfield No.4 Mk.I M47C Sniper
World War II
.303 British. 25.2" barrel length. SN: U35988. Blued metal finish mounting semi-pistol grip stock fitted with wood cheek rest and Holland & Holland pattern scope mount. Bolt-action repeating rifle fed by a semi-detachable magazine mounting a telescopic sight and iron sights. M47C manufacturer mark on the buttstock socket indicates manufacture by BSA Co. along with a date of 1945. Left side of the action body displays a legible T for "Telescope" marking, but the original model marking was removed during refinishing. Markings to the stock socket are likewise worn down by refinish, but display the correct TR marking. Matching serial number to the underside of the forend. Scope number struck into the wrist behind the stock socket has been sanded down. Battle sight aperture is correctly milled off to permit the sight to clear the scope. Stock shows a J.C/22 contractor marking above a {Broad Arrow} on the wrist. The Holland & Holland pattern scope mount displays a rough finish with KD manufacturer mark on the left side, and a serial number mark reading G37332 with the halves of the scope rings showing matching numbers where they mate. The attached scope is marked TEL STG NO 32 MK III/0S 2039 A/AK & S NO23038/1945/{Broad Arrow}. Remaining metal components show scattered subcontractor markings typical of British small arms. An importer marking on the barrel at the muzzle reads CAI ST ALB. VT.
