Lot Description
**Griffin & Howe .22 Caliber Model 1903 with J. Unertl Scope
.22 caliber. 26" barrel length. SN: 1560. Blued metal finish with jeweled bolt set in a highly figured walnut semi-pistol grip stock mounting a J. UNERTL scope on a one-piece scope base. Bolt-action repeating rifle fed by an internal magazine. The top of the barrel displays the manufacturer marking No 1560 GRIFFIN & HOWE INC. NEW YORK forward of the scope base. The scope base itself features spiral scroll embellishments along the flanks of the forward ring and the rear mounting socket. Barrel shank is finely matted with border scroll flowing along the flanks. Initials ESP are deep relief engraved on the magazine floorplate and enclosed by spiral scroll borders that transition to sunburst patterns over the screw heads. Silver oval plate is installed in the toe of the stock with a cheek pad molded along the left side. A horn forend cap adorns the stock with both the wrist and forend featuring bordered multipoint checkering with 24 lines per inch. Buttplate is finely checkered with further scroll border along the edges. Item mounts a leather sling of the Model 1907 pattern, and was completed with no iron sighs and a low over bore scope mounting solution. The scope retains its screw-in lens covers and remains functional.

Very Fine. Bore is Minty with crisp rifling throughout. Metal finish shows some light cycling wear to the internals with the jeweling worn down in places on the safety lug and extractor. Blued finish shows some scattered light scratches and mars. Checkering has some light handling wear with the wood finish overall retaining much of its varnish. The oval plate is tarnished, and the sling shows some scuffs, cracking, and abrasions overall.
