Lot Description
Jefferson Davis, Cabinet Cards, Incl. Last Known Photograph

Lot of 3 photographs of Jefferson Davis, including 2 cabinet cards, one being the last known image of the Confederate president. Plus a contact print from Underwood and Underwood used for a stereoview honoring Jefferson Davis, ca 1881.

One cabinet card with imprint of Geo. Prince, Washington, DC. On verso "Given to Mrs. David Y. White, my mother, by Jefferson Davis. 1887."

Second cabinet card with imprint of C.W. Motes, Atlanta, GA. Columbus Washington Motes (1837-1919) began working in this location in Atlanta in 1871. (Note: Motes enlisted in the Troup GA Artillery on April 24, 1861, was wounded at Antietam/Sharpsburg and Gettysburg, then captured on his way home (and paroled the same day) in June 1865. He would probably have been thrilled to photograph the Hon. Jefferson Davis.)

Contact print mounted on paper, showing a large spray of flowers with Davis' photograph in the center. Possibly from one of the funerals (New Orleans or Richmond) or stops (the funeral train stopped in Atlanta on the way to Richmond, for example).

This lot is located in Cincinnati.
