Lot Description

CSA Inspector General Walter Harrison, Autographed CDV

CDV of CSA Inspector General Walter Harrison wearing a double breasted officer's frock coat, inscribed and signed on verso, "With the regards of / Walter Harrison / Lt Col & Inspector Genl / C.S.A. / July 30th 1865." Verso with credit to Gurney & Son, NY, and three cent internal revenue stamp. 

Harrison served as major assistant adjutant general and inspector general to General George Pickett, and was promoted to lieutenant colonel December 1864, Army of Northern Virginia. He was with General Pickett during Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg, and later wrote the book, Pickett's Men: A Fragment of War History (1870), in which he recounts many of the important campaigns and battles his unit saw including Seven Pines, Seven Days, Fredericksburg, the siege of Suffolk, and Gettysburg.
