Lot Description
Lot of 3 Indo-Persian Axes
1.) Decorative Parashu - 8.5" blade. 32.25" overall with haft. Single edge crescent axe blade with chiseled floral details and piercings, as well as copper and brass inlays that appear to depict the god Shiva. Axe butt has a single vertical spike and three horizontal spikes that appear to be Hindu motifs, as well as Hindu text inlaid with copper to both sides. Haft is carved from a hardwood and features seven brass rosettes (eighth rosette is missing) as well as a ball pommel.
2.) Tabar - 5" blade. 23" overall with haft. Single edge crescent axe blade with spike tip to butt of axe and a brass elephant to backside. Haft appears to be made from steel or iron.
3.) Khond/Bulova - 7.75" blade. 31" overall with haft. Single edge recurve axe blade with chiseled backside and simple floral work to blade. Axe head is made of brass and is also chiseled with simple Arabesque engravings, with a spike tip. Haft is made of painted wood and is octagonally faceted.
