Lot Description
[AFRICAN AMERICANA - POLITICS]. A group of 3 posters related to Eldridge Cleaver and the Peace & Freedom Party. Ca late 1960s.

Register Now, Peace & Freedom Party. [Berkeley, CA]: Berkeley Graphic Arts, [1968]. 22 1/2 x 17 in. poster printed in vivid green with a large arrow. 

Though candidates with the party affiliation first appeared on ballots in 1966, the Party was officially founded on June 23, 1967. Gathering over 100,000 registrants, the party qualified for ballot status in California in January 1968. Black liberation and anti-Vietnam War were the major platforms for the left-wing party.

Cleaver is prominently featured at center. Reverse side (pages 11 and 14) includes articles and various advertisements.

Cleaver, although he was not 35 years old, was nominated by the Peace and Freedom Party and ran on a platform of ending the war in Vietnam and Black liberation.
