Lot Description
CURTIS, Edward S. (1868-1952), photographer. Studio portrait of Marie Nettleton.

6 x 7 3/4 in. silver nitrate photograph on original mount signed in ink at lower right, "Curtis." Housed in original frame.

A charming portrait of a young girl named Marie Nettleton, seated in a chair, presumably taken in Edward Curtis' studio in Seattle. Nettleton's family lived across the street from Curtis, developing a close relationship with the famed photographer.

Provenance: Descended in the Nettleton family, who resided in Seattle, Washington and lived across the street from Curtis. The consignor relates that Curtis came over many Christmases, gifting the family with a new image each year.
