I am most grateful for all your help to my family and to me." During Ford's presidency, Reverend Gordon Scruton served as an assistant rector at St. Paul's Church in Riverside, Rhode Island. Following Ford's defeat by Jimmy Carter in the 1976 presidential election he moved to Denver and set to work on his memoirs, which were published in early 1979.
