Lot Description
[UNIFORMS].  Repurposed military coat and trousers, ca late 1800s.

Frock coat with applied yellow piping on sleeves and black ribbon on chest. Interior of stand-up collar with ink identification "C.S. Tripler." Trousers with red stripes.

HDS indicates a Charles S. Tripler was commissioned in 1863 into Co. E, New York 96th Infantry. He resigned on 8/31/1865, and had subsequent service in the U.S. Army from September 1865 through September 1873. Though there is no provenance to definitively link this same Charles S. Tripler with the coat, it is possible the coat was a military-issue frock coat repurposed after the Civil War by Tripler or another party for a separate usage.
