Lot Essay:
According to Alain Girard, co-author of the forthcoming Albert André catalogue critique, it is possible that the present painting depicts the garden at the back of Albert André's home in Laudun. The artist was confined there for the duration of World War II. In the background are visible the two pillars that supported the arbor in the garden.
