Lot Description
A Louis XVI carved oak armoire, late 18th century
With removable molded cornice, over carved panel with basket and grapevine motif, above two carved doors carved with rose, laurel, and oak leaf sprigs, with large brass pinned hinges and escutcheons, paneled sides, on shaped and carved apron, on cabriole feet, the interior with original adjustable shelf with two drawers, accompanied by two later glass shelves and fabric wrapped shelf.

Condition Report
presents nicely, with general wear to wood surfaces commensurate with age, including some flaking to finish, particularly on doors; left-facing door has added wood segments for better closure-- the doors require some finessing to close fully, and the original interior shelf (adjustable) has a modern hook closure to assist; with some occasional scattered age cracks, the cornice have age cracks in particular along sides; the doors, cornice, and feet / apron with some minor occasional abrasions, chips, or losses commensurate with honest use over time; the interior shelf with drawers: the drawers with a couple losses and patches along faces, retaining original hardware; the piece had previously been lined with printed cotton upholstery, and the interior side panels, interior of doors, and top of original shelf still retaining fabric- the fabric showing signs of moderate wear, but the shelf having a large stain toward the back edge; the back panels were previously upholstered with fabric, but that has been removed, leaving some residual staples, cotton padding fill; the backboards also with a couple later drilled holes for electrical wiring; the entire piece was disassembled (side panels, back panels, bottom and top boards, cornice, doors, two carved friezes, with the pegs malleted out, for ease of transport, and the piece presently has only a few later pegs to keep it together for presentation purposes; the armoire accompanied by two modern glass shelves and a later plywood shelf upholstered in conforming fabric; includes the original key, which does work
