Lot Description
[Natural History] [Jardine, Sir William]. Sir William Jardine's Illustrations of the Duck Tribe

Jardine Hall, Lockerby, Dumfries: Privately Printed at the Expense of the Author, (1839). 4to. Illustrated with nine hand-colored engraved plates, by Jardine, Edward Lear, John Selby, and James Stewart. Modern quarter brown calf over marbled paper-covered boards; all edges trimmed; front gutter split; old tape residue at fore-edge of title-page and verso of final plate, slightly affecting image; light spotting and soiling along plate margins; original front wrapper bound in at rear, tape residue and soiling to same. Nissen IVB 470; Zimmer, p. 32; Freeman 1931

Very rare privately-printed work on ducks by Sir William Jardine. According to Wood, the images include eight plates from Jardine and John Selby's Illustrations of Ornithology (Original series: 62, 95, 137, 138, 146, 147; New Series: xxiii and xxix). This work was apparently distributed by Jardine himself.
