[Fine Bindings] [Tice, Clara] Fontaine, Jean de la. Tales and Novels of J. de la Fontaine

Nijmegen, Holland: Privately Printed at the Printing House of G.J. Thieme, 1929. First and limited edition, #1 of only five copies of the "Choicest Falstaff Connoisseur Collectors" sets, completely set by hand by Tice, and with an original signed crayon drawing by her in first volume. 8vo. Presentation copy, inscribed by Tice on half-title in Vol. I: "To / Jeanne & Lazaar / Clara Tice". With an etched limitation label, signed and numbered by Tice at front of each volume. Illustrated with 12 etched plates, each hand-colored by Tice, and with an additional 12 uncolored versions of same. Full crimson crushed levant, elaborately stamped in gilt, small chip at bottom of spine on Vol. I; top edges gilt, other edges untrimmed; paneled red and green gilt morocco dentelles; moire silk endleaves; lacking one drawing, as called for on limitation; text largely unopened; limitation label in Vol. II now loose.

A fine presentation copy of Clara Tice's extremely limited illustrated edition of Jean de la Fontaine's tales.
