History of Armenia by Father Michael Chamich; from B.C. 2247 to the Year of Christ 1780, or 1229 of the Armenian Era, translated from the original Armenian by James Avdall. Calcutta: Bishop's College Press, 1827.2 volumes, 8vo (222 x 142 mm). Engraved folding map by P. Savignac, 2 engraved folding plates by E. de la Combe. (A few short tears to folds, some minor spotting.) ORIGINAL BOARDS uncut (spines chipping with loss and discreet library labels, old tape repairs.) FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH. Father Chamich, an Istanbul native, first published his history of Armenia in Armenian in 1786; the abridged edition of 1811 is the basis for the present tranlation by Avdall, a member of the Asiatic Society of Bengal.
