[London: Theodor Bassett,] 1651 [but 1676].Hand-colored double-hemisphere map of the world, image 395 x 520 mm (433 x 555 mm sheet). Decorative borders incorporating polar celestial hemispheres, medallion portraits of the Magellan, Drake, Cavendish, and Van Noort, the first four circumnavigators, allegorical figures of the four elements, and diagrams of solar and lunar eclipses, English text on verso. (Light marginal chipping repaired, short marginal tear to fold at bottom with minor loss in map repaired on verso, a few tiny holes.) Shirley's State 4 of Speed's map, which was likely engraved by Abraham Goos, based on William Grent's world map of 1625 and Jodocus Hondius's world map of 1617. Shirley 317.
