Folio (448 x 302 mm). 53 double-page maps, charts, and letterpress tables, most hand-colored. (Some chipping, particularly to bottom margin occasionally touching plate, some browning or staining.) Publisher's half roan (worn). Second edition of one of the earliest and most extensive American atlases, first published in 1822. The second edition includes updated maps of Louisiana, North Carolina, and Maine. The map of Arkansas is based on Maj. Stephen Harriman Long's 1820 expedition to explore the source of the Platte River. Phillips Atlases 4464.
