An Eastern Roman Marble Portrait Head
Circa 5th Century A.D.
Height 7 inches (17.5 cm).
Provenance:
Reputedly from Denny Pinkus, Tel Aviv, Israel.
Private Estate, Connecticut, acquired in the mid-1980s.

Condition Report
Intact as preserved. Minor pitting to front of the face, mostly on the chin, lips, and above the proper right eye. Other minor chips and abrasions throughout with some discoloration and slightly beige patina. Heavy encrustation. No obvious signs of restoration. The break at the neck is even and drilled to accommodate the rod for a wooden base, not permanently affixed. Height with stand 11 inches.
