Theodor Kaluza (1885-1954) published a paper in 1921 where he linked gravitation and electromagnetism using Einstein’s gravitation equations for 5 dimensions, instead of 4. In February 1927, Einstein published these “papers on the five-dimensional theory are two short communications” where “his improved treatment [of the Kaluza theory] turns out to be identical with the work of Klein” (Pais, Subtle is the Lord, pp. 344, 333).
