The third treaty made by the United States with a power other than France, negotiated by Benjamin Franklin. Though the treaty was concluded on April 3, 1783, it was not printed until this Stockholm publication, likely in a small edition for official use, not widely circulated. The United States and Sweden, a major maritime power of the period, granted each other most-favored nation trade status, agreeing on rules for trade in times of war and peace, and establishing a framework for consular representation.
