2 parts in one volume, 4to (225 x 160 mm). Engraved frontispiece, engraved title on 2Q2v, 69 engraved plates (4 folding). (Some browning to a few leaves.) Contemporary vellum, title hand-lettered on spine (old library label at foot of spine); quarter morocco folding case.
FIRST EDITION. Buonanni, a student of Athanasiuis Kircher, was likely the first to employ a microscope in the practice of medicine. In the Observationes, he defends his theories of spontaneous generation, and in the Micrographia curiosa, he provides his observations on early microscopes.
