8vo (225 x 159). Title-page printed in red and black. Original buckram backed boards, printed paper label on spine, top edge gilt, others uncut (some wear, stitching on front and rear quires weak, repair to front pastedowns); blue slipcase (chipping). 
 
FIRST EDITION, LIMITED ISSUE, number 380 of 500 copies SIGNED BY LEWIS. In 1926, Lewis was offered the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction for this work but refused stating other authors were more worthy. Only four years later, he accepted the 1930 Nobel Prize in Literature “for his vigorous and graphic art of description and his ability to create, with wit and humour, new types of characters” (The Nobel Prize in Literature 1930).
