Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR - MAGIC LANTERN SLIDES]. An extensive collection of 250+ hand-colored glass slides featuring illustrations of Civil War campaigns, battles, and naval engagements, including:

250+ glass slides housed in approx. 7 x 4 in. wooden mounts. Conditions mostly fine, few with cracks to glass or chipping to wood. Conditions vary, though most are fine, with moderate to heavy soiling/wear/loss to paper labels and few with cracks to glass.

Specific engagements include the battles at Antietam (4), Bull Run (15), Chancellorsville, Chattanooga, Chickamauga (3), Corinth, Fair Oaks (4), Fort Donelson (7), Fort Fisher, Fort Sumter (20), Fredericksburg (3), Gettysburg (4) Hampton Roads, Hatteras Inlet Batteries (3), Malvern Hills, Missionary Ridge, Mobile Bay, Murfreesboro (2), New Bern, Pea Ridge, Petersburg (4), Port Hudson, Philippi, Pittsburgh Landing (4), Shiloh (2), Spottsylvania Court House, Vicksburg (6), Wilderness (4), Wilson's Creek (3),  Sherman's march to the sea, and many others. 

Also of note are 13 slides featuring Zouaves, including scenes titled, "Charge of the Black Horse Cavalry upon the N.Y. Fire Zouaves, at Bull Run," "Battle at Antietam - Hawkins' Zouaves storming the Rebel position," and "The Burnside Expedition, -- Gallant Charge of Hawkins' Zouaves upon the Rebel Batteries on Roanoke Island." 

Other highlights include: "Prof. Lowe's Baloon [sic] reconnoissance [sic] of the Enemy's position, near Fairfax, Va;" "The Siege of Charleston--The 'SWAMP ANGEL' Battery opening on Charleston with Greek Fire;" and a slide depicting a barrel torpedo or mine.
