157 in. (hoist) x 151 in. hand-sewn flag with 35 cotton single applique stars. Stars in a grid configuration of 5 rows of 7 stars each. Tears, small holes, and evidence of manual repairs, with large portion of fly missing.

The 35-star flag became official on 4 July 1863 after the admission of West Virginia into the Union on 20 June. It only lasted for 2 years when the flag was updated again in 1865 after Nevada was admitted to the Union.
