[CIVIL WAR] -- [LINCOLN, Abraham (1809-1865)]. A group of 4 CDVs highlighted by Lincoln portrait and rare view of the Soldiers' Home in Chicago, Illinois. Chicago: S.M. Fassett, ca late 1860s.
Outdoor view of several men lined up outside the Soldiers' Home in Chicago, IL (light, even toning, small pinprick to surface of print near top). Photographer's imprint and penciled notation on verso, including September 1864 or 1867 date (difficult to discern). The house was built in a series of phases from 1864 to 1923 and it was designated a Chicago Landmark in 1996. During the Civil War, the home served as a hospital for injured soldiers, and following the war, it became a home for disabled Union Army Veterans.
[With:] CDV of Abraham Lincoln. Massachusetts: John P. Soule, 1865 (rich tonality, few scattered spots). -- CDV of Edwin Stanton, Secretary of War under Lincoln. Uncredited (rich tonality, some spotting, mount with trimmed corners). -- CDV of Edward Everett. New York: Brady, Anthony, n.d. (some surface soiling, toning to print and mount).
