[CALIFORNIA]. -– [GOLD RUSH.] Sixth plate ambrotype of Edward Wright. Marysville, CA: J. Ruth's Gallery, ca 1856.
Sixth plate hand-tinted ambrotype. (Tarnishing to perimeter.) Housed in full gilt leather case (hinge tender). With Ruth's Gallery "J. Ruth’s Gallery, D. St. Near Third, Marysville, Cal.” on velvet pad. Mautz notes that Ruth’s Gallery was active in Marysville on D. Street (opposite Ham’s House) in 1856 (p. 164).
[With:] Vignetted portrait of Wright. Cincinnati: Landy, n.d. 2 x 3 3/8 in. albumen CDV on cardstock mount (small tear at upper edge). Photographer's imprint to mount verso. Pencil inscription identifies the subject on recto.
Edward Marvin Wright (1829-1901) was a watchmaker and jeweler in Marysville. Originally from Tennessee, he relocated to Marysville with the population and economic boom of the California Gold Rush.
