15 1/2 x 19 1/2 in. (visible area) orotone housed in period gilt frame, 21 x 25 1/4 in. (rich tonality, strong clarity; light surface wear to frame). In this ca 1900-1910 portrait, an aged, but still dapper Cody wears his signature broad-brimmed hat and sports a fashionably tied silk kerchief. While Buffalo Bill was photographed by commercial photographers hundreds of times, this is the only known image of him in an orotone format.

RARE: The only other known example of this orotone was produced in a smaller size, measuring 8 x 10 in., and achieved a price realized of $10,000 at auction (sold Cowan's Auctions, 2019, lot 343).
