Lot Description

Pre-Civil War sunglasses.

Early pair of sunglasses housed in a 4 3/4 x 1 1/4 in., hinged, pewter case lined with red wool stamped "Pat. Sept." (surface wear to case exterior and interior). The glasses have 4 octagonal blue lenses; 2 lenses are hinged in order to provide additional shading. The temples slide to accommodate the size of the wearer. The temple tips have a loop to attach to a cord.
