Condition Report
Henry Salem Hubbell, a student of James Whistler, was most well-known for his commissioned portraits of Presidents Herbert Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt. A noted Impressionist painter, his works can be found in several museums including the Smithsonian and the National Portrait Gallery.
The painting is stable and attractive. There is minor rubbing to proper left edge from the frame. Under UV light, there is evidence of inpainting to areas of dress, cheek and sky. There is very little surface dirt so there is no need for painting to be cleaned or revarnished at the moment. Attached light is easily removed (one screw) and giltwood frame is very light, under 15 pounds. Frame dimensions 34 x 31 inches. Painting is lighter than depicted in image.
