Condition Report
Takes a wind and runs.  The case shows an uneven patina, but with traces of a dark, historic surface.  The case key, winding key, pendulum, finial, carved cornice elements and weight all appear to be original.  It is possible that the pendulum weights are original, but most comparable clocks feature mercury-filled glass tubes. Old scuffs, marks and scratches consistent with age and use.  The beat scale is an early replacement, as is the decorative carving resting before the scale.  The wear marks beneath the carved element of the beat scale shows that there was something else in its place.  The molding at the base of the finial appears to have been previously detached and reglued.  The hood appears to be stuck to the top of the case, likely due to swelling of the pegs used to hold it in place.  There is an age crack at the base of the hood on its proper right side.  The originality of the dial is questionable.  While it shows age and wear, it is atypical of what is known to have been manufactured by E. Howard.  The dial is a piece of metal that has been painted white with black painted numerals and lettering.  The dial does show wear and age consistent with having been a part of this clock for a long time.   Additional images available upon request.
