Lot Description
Collection of Victorian & Edwardian Menswear, Museum Deaccession 

Sold to benefit the Art Acquisition Fund at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfield.

This lot includes one Edwardian men's evening ensemble and top hat with leather carrying case, and four late 19th - early 20th century men's hats. 

THE FIRST
Ensemble consists of jacket, vest, pants, hat and carrying case. The ensemble is made mostly of black wool trimmed with black silk satin. While most of the main seams are sewn by machine, most interior seams and finishing stitches are down by hand.
 
Tail Coat
The tailcoat has a notched lapel, long sleeves, long tails and a center front that hangs open (doesn't close). 

Vest
The vest is made of black silk satin with a curved lapel and center front button closure. 

Pants
The pants have a double pleat into the waistband, button fly and a satin stripe down the side seam. 
All three items unlabeled. No size label.
Museum accession number label sewn to lining. 
Excellent example of early 20th century tailoring.

Black faille collapsible top hat trimmed in grosgrain ribbon and lint in black satin.

Condition Report
Condition:

THE FIRST
Jacket, vest and pants are in very good condition. The satin lapel on both sides of the jacket has some minor marks in the weave. The vest has been let out at each side seam. The top hat is in good condition though the black satin lining is coming loose and there is some minor soiling due to wear. The hat case is worn and has areas of extreme wear. 

THE SECOND
The overall condition is very good structurally though the leather band has started to come loose from the crown/brim and has some light soiling due to wear. 

THE THIRD
The overall condition is very good with minimal soiling due to wear in the lining. 

THE FOURTH
The overall condition is excellent with no issues. 

THE FIFTH
The overall condition is very good with no visible issues.
