Collection of Seven Bustles and One Skirt Supporter, 1870-80s

This lot includes eight late 19th century bustles. 

THE FIRST
Crescent shaped flattened metal coil and metal reed skirt supporter covered in cotton satin.  
Label (stamped): Madame Griswold's / Skirt Supporter 21st E 16th St. / Patented Dec. 8th, 1874 / New York.

THE SECOND
Collapsible long bustle with flat metal bands, tie backs, and covered in cotton, topped with ruffles, and hook and eye waistband closure.

Condition Report
Condition:

THE FIRST
The overall condition is very good though there is some slight darkening due to age, a couple of rust spots and worn areas where the waistband connects to the supporter.

THE SECOND
The overall condition is very good structurally though there is some light soiling throughout, mainly along the bottom and across a few of the metal bands. The eye closure is loose on one side but still intact. 

THE THIRD
The overall condition is very good structurally with a few minor soiled and spotted areas but is fully functional.

THE FOURTH
The overall condition is very good structurally with some light discoloration and wear due to age.

THE FIFTH
The overall condition is good though the tape straps are detached from waistband (currently safety pinned), a couple of the hoops are misshapen but are all intact, and there appears to have been an extension or replacement made to the right strap on the waistband. 

THE SIXTH
The overall condition is good though the bustle had darkened due to age with some small spots and a couple of small holes near the top waist area.

THE SEVENTH
The overall condition is good with some of the wire casing worn away at the top rear of the bustle, some minor aged discoloration throughout, and a few minor rust spots from the metal fittings.

THE EIGHTH
The overall condition is good though there are some splits in the fabric closest to the body and a couple of small holes on the skirt side outer layer.
