Lot Description
Two Silk Bodices with One Matching Capelet, 1840-60

This lot includes three pieces; two bodices and one cape. 

THE FIRST
Striped blue and mauve silk taffeta bodice trimmed in blue fringe with gathered and smocked front, fitted separating sleeves, and center back hook and eye closures. The sleeves separate under the blue fringe with a series of hooks and eyes.

THE SECOND
Bronze iridescent silk taffeta bodice with gathered front and back, flared sleeves, and trimmed in blue fringe; paired  with matching capelet with armholes.

Condition Report
Condition:

THE FIRST
The overall condition is fair with the following:
Losses: There are two buttons missing on the right sleeve and one on the left and the button covers are threadbare. 
Fading/Color Change: There is fading under each arm and along the neckline due to soiling. The front left bodice has some moderate fading as well. 
Soiling/Spots: There is extensive soiling under each arm and minor spots throughout the length of the sleeves. 

THE SECOND
The overall condition is fair with the following:
Structural Issues: The underarms of the capelet have split. 
Split/Separated Seams: The top metal button has lost its fabric cover. 
Losses: The capelet bottom button appears to be missing. 
Fading/Color Change: There is some fading under each arm in the lining and a few spots along the front waistband. 
Soiling/Spots: There is extensive liquid related discoloration across the front and back of the capelet. On both the capelet and bodice, there is heavy soiling under each arm. 

Everything is sold 'As Is’. The stated overall condition of the lot is based on the assumption that the wear is consistent with age and use. The absence of any reference to the condition of a lot does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
