The present pair are based on an anonymous pair of commodes dated circa 1770-1780 from the Collection of Isaac de Camondo (French/Turkish, 1851-1911), now at the Musée du Louvre (nos. OA 6519-20).
Condition Report
In overall good, attractive condition. The veneer very attractive with minor scuffs and a few areas of loss to the parquetry. The marquetry and parquetry both with filled-engraved detailing. Heavy lifting and loss to the veneer inside the drawers. Four strips of veneer from the sides of the drawer fronts are also missing. The gilt bronze mountings with a handsome patina and no losses. Both drawers on each example open and close easily and smoothly. The lock mechanism is constructed with a pin that protrudes from the keyhole; no keys are present. Each example with the maker's stamps to all four corners of the superior surface. The marble tops with some light scuffs and scratches, but no evidence of chips, cracks or repairs. The tops roughly 28.5 mm in thickness.
