Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. A group of 5 sixth plate ambrotypes and tintypes of confident young Union soldiers. 

Sixth plate hand-gilt tintype. (Tarnishing at perimeter.) Housed in full geometric thermoplastic union case [Berg 3-125] (a few small areas of discoloration). A young soldier is seated, grasping his labels with both hands and wearing a forage cap. 

Sixth plate hand-gilt ambrotype. (Shadowing at perimeter.) Housed in full pressed paper case with foliate design (moderate scuffing, hinge split and rebacked). A ruddy-faced young man wears a cap and jacket with hand-gilt buttons.

Sixth plate hand-tinted tintype. (Some wear at perimeter.) Housed with glass, brass mat, and preserver. A young soldier sits jauntly in a chair, rests his arm against the back. He wears a kepi with a flag pin and looks directly at the camera. 

Sixth plate ruby ambrotype. (Loss to lower perimeter.) Housed with glass, brass mat, and preserver (heavy verdigris and staining to mat and preserver). 

Sixth plate hand-tinted tintype. (Plate affixed to glass, some loss of emulsion to lower third.) Housed with glass, brass mat, and preserver (small areas of verdigris). A young officer sits wearing his Hardee hat with sergeant chevrons hand gilt on his upper arm.
