Lot Description

A Chippendale Style Shell-and-Block Carved Mahogany Kneehole Desk

In the manner of John Townsend, Rhode Island, Possibly Centennial incorporating earlier elements

set with brass carrying handles.
Height 36 x width 37 1/2 x depth 20 1/4 inches.

Condition Report

In overall good and stable condition. Retains an even patina throughout though slightly discolored around the drawer pulls. The drawer pulls and carrying handles appear to be original to the piece. Old scuffs, marks and scratches consistent with age and use. One of the rear interior leg blocks is detached, but retained. The lower case door may be replaced or it is just a victim of shrinkage as the lock mechanism no longer reaches the clasp. Secondary woods: white pine and poplar
