Lot Description
Two Japanese Lacquer Inro
19TH CENTURY
the large a four-case example, decorated in gold hiramaki-e with shell inlays showing figures at various tasks, the interior of nashiji lacquer, together with a metal square ojime and a carved wood netsuke in the form of a monkey hugging a gourd; the smaller a five-case example, decorated in gold, black and colored hiramaki-e and enashiji showing a tsuzumi, a fan and a  hat amongst prunus blossoms, all set on a kinji ground, the interior of nashiji lacquer, together with a reticulated gilt bronze ojime and a carved boxwood netsuke in the shape of lotus leaf; both unsigned. 
Length of larger 3 1/8 in., 7.9 cm.
Condition Report
Each in overall good stable condition, with some rubbing to the lacquer and light surfaces scratches, Expected wear to between the cases, with one lip of the larger example having a small chip. The squirrel netsuke with soiling. The inlays in the larger example intact, slight flaking around one central figure.
