[CIVIL WAR].  SHERMAN, W.T. (1820-1891). Autograph letter signed ("W.T. Sherman") as General of the US Army. Washington, DC, 21 July 1876.

2pp, on Headquarters Army of the United States letterhead (5 x 8"). To the Editor of the Evening Star. "Please publish a notice this evening inviting all members of the Society of the Army of the Tennessee in or near Washington to send their names to me as early as possible, in order that the proper Committees may e directed to celebrate in a proper manner the unveiling of the McPherson Equestrian Monument here..." Signed W.T. Sherman as President of the Society.

Major General James McPherson (1828-1864) commanded the 17th Corps and was killed during the Battle of Atlanta while serving under Sherman.
