Duplicate portraits of Pollock wearing a coat and bowtie are also enclosed, each with verso identification, "Papa Pollock" (toning, fading, soiling to images; edge and corner wear to mounts). A possible 5th tintype portrait including Pollock is enclosed, showing an older gent posed with his wife and two children.

At the age of 33, Samuel Pollock enlisted on 10/21/1862 as a lieutenant colonel and was commissioned into Field & Staff, 6th Iowa Cavalry on 1/31/1863. He was later promoted to colonel  6/22/1864, then brevetted brigadier general on 3/13/1865. Pollock mustered out on 10/17/1865 at Sioux City, IA.
