Lot Description
[MUSIC] -- [POSTERS]. SINGER, David, artist. Complete set of 66 SIGNED posters designed for the Fillmore West Ballroom, San Francisco, California. 1969-1971. 

Set of 66 posters, comprised of 59 single-format posters measuring 14 x 22 in., housed in a 1 3/4 x 14 3/4 x 23 1/4 in. wooden box custom made during David Singer's relationship with Jana Friedman, daughter to well-known rock poster dealer Ben Friedman; and 7 double-format posters measuring 28 x 21 in. Each poster is an artist's proof SIGNED IN PENCIL by the artist, David Singer.

Provenance: The lot includes a handwritten letter from David Singer detailing the edition of 28 complete sets; and a September 1988 handwritten letter from Jana Friedman transferring the set of posters to Ted Simmons, stating in part, "This is an original set given to me by David Singer and signed by him."  

RARE: One of 28 sets designed by David Singer for Bill Graham's productions at the Fillmore West Ballroom in San Francisco, CA, between June 1969-July 1971, including the poster produced to promote the last concerts at the Fillmore West, designed as a gift to Bill Graham to commemorate the closing of the venue (BG 287).

Highlighted singers/bands include: Grateful Dead, The Who, Santana, Ike & Tina Turner, Joe Cocker, Van Morrison, B.B. King, Jr. Walker & the All Stars, Fleetwood Mac, Miles Davis, Boz Skaggs, The Kings, Elton John, Aretha Franklin, Chuck Berry, Chicago, the Byrds, Sly & the Family Stone, Canned Heat, Iron Butterfly, Little Richard, the Guess Who, Seals & Crofts, Eric Clapton, Jethro Tull, Small Faces with Rod Stewart, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Procol Harum, Frank Zappa, Poco, Eric Burdon & War, and Spencer Davis.
