Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Federal issue double bag knapsack.
Painted canvas knapsack with 2 of 3 leather closure straps on large front flap and all 3 roller buckles utilized for anchoring the closure straps. Both back shoulder straps present as are leather cross straps and brass "J" hooks. Stamped "R. Valentine / US Inspector / NY." Provenance: Collection of James C. Frasca.
Knapsack shows heavy wear as is typical of this hard-used soldier's item. Canvas is brittle in places, multiple leather straps missing, and areas of splits in canvas most prominently at the top near shoulder straps.
