Lot Description
Mauser Model 71/84 Rifle by Spandau
World War I
11mm Mauser. 31.75" barrel. SN: 3978. Blued finish, bright receiver, fire blued small parts, full-length European hardwood stock. Metallic cartridge bolt action repeating rifle with tubular, under barrel magazine, military ladder rear sight, post and blade front sight and knife bayonet lug on the upper barrel band. Receiver with SPANDAU arsenal marking, Imperial German proof and inspection marks, and an 1888 manufacturing date. Imperial inspection marks in stock as well. Matching serial numbers throughout. Retains both sling swivels.

A very nice example of the first repeating military Mauser rifle, made on the eve of its replacement by the Model 1888 Commission Rifle.

Condition Report
Very good. Bore fine, bright and shiny with excellent rifling. Barrel with most of the blue and some scattered light surface rust and freckled oxidation. Bright receiver dulling with freckled discoloration and some light surface rust, mostly on the interior. Markings remain clear and crisp throughout. Action is mechanically functional. Stock with scattered bumps, dings and mars.
