A group of 13 images, comprising:

CDV diagram of the CSS Alabama showing hits it suffered from a run in the USS Hatteras in the Gulf. New York: Appleton (fading, occasional soiling, edge wear to mount). The CSS Alabama was a screw Sloop-of-War built in 1862 by John Laird Sons and Company for the Confederate States Navy at Birkenhead on the River Mersey opposite Liverpool, England. The Alabama served as a successful commerce raider. Over the course of her two-year career, she attacked Union merchant and naval ships and never docked at a Southern port. The Alabama was sunk in June 1864 by the USS Kearsarge at the Battle of Cherbourg, outside the port of Cherbourg, France.

Yokohama: Hung Cheong, "Marine, Ship, and Portrait Painter" (as described on verso). -- CDV of a naval subject, verso inscription "Your friend, Geo. H. Griffing, A.A. Paym. U.S.N." Brooklyn: E.M. Douglass (some soiling on verso). -- CDV of young child named Sigourney B. Morse, son of Charles and Caroline Morse, wearing a sailor suit, posed before an American flag. Vallejo, CA: James G. [Also with:] 2 tintypes, each approx. 4 x 2 1/2 in., featuring a sailor standing before a painted studio backdrop showing a ship on the water (images a bit dark, some spotting/light oxidation to surface of one of the tintypes, possibly period copy images). Each sailor wears a hat that appears to read "Naiad," which may represent the HMS Naiad, an Apollo-class protected cruiser of the Royal Navy. -- 2 3/4 x 3 in. tintype of two men, one wearing a shell jacket, his arm draped around his friend's back (some surface wear, few creases to plate). -- CDV-sized tintype housed in paper sleeve/mat, showing a man wearing a cap and jacket, possibly military. -- CDV-sized tintype housed in a paper sleeve/mat showing a Spanish American War-era soldier casually seated in a studio. San Francisco: Shoot the Chute Tintype Gallery (significant loss to paper sleeve). -- 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 in. tintype of two men, one dressed in uniform, possibly a bandsman (some edge wear to plate).
