Appleton and Company, 1856. Large 8vo. Numerous plates including 11 folding maps; errata slip. (Hinges starting.) Original gilt-stamped cloth (spine and extremities sunned, few small splits to joints). Provenance: William C. Wilson (armorial bookplate).
FIRST ONE-VOLUME EDITION, of Perry's three-year expedition to Japan which resulted in the signing of a treaty to open Japan to the West.
