CHRISTO & JEANNE-CLAUDE. Barils - Barrels. 2016. INSCRIBED BY CHRISTO TO SECRETARY ALBRIGHT.
Inscribed on the half-title: “Christo For Madeleine with Love August 30, 2016 NY.” Published for Christo’s installation at the Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul de Vence, France, Barils is profusely illustrated with images of scale models and installations. In an interview, Christo responded to the need for approval by local authorities and the difficulty with achieving permission to realize some of their larger art installations, he recognized Secretary Albright for her assistance: “[Former Secretary of State] Madeleine Albright went to the Middle East to fight for us on behalf of The Mastaba project in Abu Dhabi in the UAE” (Architecture Digest, 8 May 2018).
