Lot Description
Lot of 3 Malayan Swords Including: Campilan and Klewangs
Lot of three Malayan swords including:

1.) Campilan - 28" blade length. 37.5" overall with hilt. Single edged machete style blade with chiseled perforations to backside of point. Forked hilt appears to be carved from bone, has a yellow glass inlay to left side, grip that is wrapped with rattan, and holes for decorative tufts of hair.

2.) Klewang - 14" blade length. 19" overall with hilt. Single edge machete style blade with a single spur to spine of tip. Hilt is made of carved hardwood with holes that were most likely used to hold tufts of hair for decoration. Blade has two stickers to left side and what appears to be an accession number to grip.

3.) Klewang - 18" blade length. 28.5" overall with hilt and scabbard. Single edge machete style convex blade with slightly concaved spine. Hilt is carved wood with braided brass wiring and tufts of red, black, and white hair. Includes wood scabbard wrapped with braided rattan.

According to Stone, campilans are a Malayan sword and are the national weapon worn by the indigenous Sea Dayak people of Borneo, Moros of Sulu and Mindanao, and other peoples of the Philippine archipelago for court use and self defense. Klewang, is common a sword used by the Malay peoples.

Condition Report
Both items are in about fair to good condition. Blades show scattered oxidation, scratches, mottled coloration, and scratching. Hilts also show scattered losses and scratches.
