Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. Ninth plate ambrotype of War of 1812 veteran.
Ninth plate hand-tinted ambrotype (small spot, a few scratches to lacquer). Housed in full pressed paper case (hinge split, tarnishing to mat, light wear to extremities). With contemporary ink inscription identifying the subject: "Gilbert Pepper, Died Dec 1st 1865, Aged 68 years."
A half-length studio portrait of an older gentleman wearing a double-breasted waistcoat with his hands genteelly clasped at his waist.
